Collection Name Long, Rucker, and Aiken family photographs and lithographs, 1859-1979
Collection Overview The collection documents the political, civic, educational, professional, family, and social life of members of the Long, Rucker, and Aiken families from 1859 through the 1970s. The images document three generations of the Long, Rucker, and Aiken families and visually chronicles their rise from slavery to social and political influence. It also provides visual documentation of African American life from Reconstruction to the late 20th century.
Series Description Series I comprises approximately one half of the collection and contains images of the immediate family members and descendants of Jefferson and Lucinda Long and Henry and Annie Rucker. The majority of photographs is primarily of the Rucker family and includes images of Ann Rucker Anderson; Annie Eunice Long Rucker; Bessie Rucker Davis and her daughters; Hazel and Henry Rucker; Neddie, Nancy Ann, and Lucy Rucker Aiken. There are personal snapshots and professional portraits of family members with friends and classmates in outdoor settings, at home, and in social gatherings. Also included are images of Jefferson and Lucinda Long.
